It's Not Here

Can't find what you're looking for?

If the Penticton Public Library does not have the book (movie, video game, board game, etc) you want, you have two options:

1) If the item is NEW (current and previous calendar year) we invite you to make a "materials request" by logging in to your account. If you need help, give us a call or come in!

2) If the item is older than the current (or previous) calendar year, we invite you to do an Inter-library loan (ILL). You can request an ILL in two ways:

Online: Click here to make your own inter-library requests!

or In person: by coming into the library, or phoning us: (250) 770-7781.

To request a book-club set that is not in our collection and not published in the last year, you may call us or fill out the webform.

FAQ for Inter-Library loans

  • Books published more than a year ago (we will consider purchasing newer items)
  • Photocopies of magazine and newspaper articles
  • Microfilm/fiche of genealogical materials
  • DAISY CD's for the visually impaired (patrons must have a "Talking Book" card type)
  • Book-club sets published more than a year ago.

  • Books published in current or preceding year.
  • "Library of Things" items

There are, this is because some libraries will lend out these items, and others will not.

  • DVDs and CDs
  • Textbooks

There is usually no cost to borrow materials from other libraries. Some academic libraries charge a fee for their items.

  • It varies. If the book is owned by a library in the Okanagan and is on the shelf, it may take only a few days. Books from larger regional systems may take two to three weeks.
  • We will tell you when the book is here, or if we are not able to get it.

Books are checked out as soon as we contact you to pick it up. They are usually checked out for a three week loan, although some libraries give shorter loan times.

We contact the lending library to ask for a renewal. Most BC public libraries allow one renewal.
